The Crimson Key

Rupinder Kaur or you can call by her nickname “Ruby”, who is hardworking girl with long curly hairs living in a new country far away from her home. She is doing two jobs in a cleaning company and also trying to do best in their studies. Life is not easy for everyone especially for Ruby after her father passed away. Ruby has their mother and brother responsibility on her for everything but still she never complained because she always believes that one day she will get success in their life by doing hard work and complete her all dreams with their family.

I remembered she had discussed one incident with me that one day; while cleaning the 20th floor old office building, she walked toward a meeting room which looks dusty and the office looked like no one had used it for weeks. The chairs in the meeting room were not placed properly, the light did not work properly, and there was a thin layer of dust on a table. Firstly, she tied her long curly hairs and started wiping the table slowly get better. 

That was when she is noting something unique on table. 

On the corner of long meeting table, she founds a single paper on the table which looked like an important as it was folded properly and having a company stamp on it. 

She picked that paper and froze it. Then, she got to know that it was an agreement - an official contract regarding the building which was misplaced a few days before. And even she had heard the conversation between the two manager who were talking loudly regarding the important document or an agreement in between the two partners of the company that was very precious for the company that had gone missing.

They were stressed and upset as that agreement involved in between the two business partners and had a major legal update. And maybe without it, the company could face big trouble.

Ruby stood in the silent room holding the paper. Her heartbeat fast. 

Then a thought came into her mind:

If I gave this back, would they accused me of taking agreement? Or would they thank me for finding it?

So, on that her mind felt heavy. She knew that the job is very important for her. One wrong step could affect her whole family, her studies, and her future. She did not want to create any misunderstanding and did not want to be blamed for something which she did not do. 

After thinking a lot, she thought about their moral values and her parents teachings that -

“Be fair with everyone whether it’s good for you or not, but you have to just go straight without being afraid of anything”.

This thought gave her courage

So, she took a deep breath and decided to leave that agreement on a manager’s desk without telling anyone that she kept that over there. 

Then next day, there was a twist that a “Thank you” note was taped to her cleaning cart.

To the employee who returned that agreement, please meet with the manager to get your reward because that is very important agreement which was missing.

Ruby smiled quietly because she knew that she did that, but she was happy for their honesty and hard work.
